Council President John Nixon Announces Meetings for Casino Issue
During Lima City Council’s meeting on Monday, July 23, 2007 an Inter Governmental Agreement was received, filed and referred to Council’s Committee of the Whole. On Wednesday, July 25th Lima City Council President John Nixon held a media conference to announce the following meetings to discuss the issue:

Monday, July 30, 2007 @ 6:00 PM:  Council will meet as a Committee of the Whole
Thursday, August 2, 2007 @ 6:00 PM: Council will meet as a Committee of the Whole
Monday, August 13, 2007 @ 6:30 PM: Special Meeting of City Council

If an ordinance is authorized by the Committee of the Whole or the Mayor it is expected that it will be on the Monday, August 6, 2007 Lima City Council Meeting Agenda.  Council President John Nixon anticipates the Ordinance having 3 separate readings: August 6th, August 13th and August 20th with a vote expected on the 3rd reading likely to be on August 20th.  When Council meets as a Committee of the Whole on Monday 7/23 and Thursday 8/2 it will be for the purpose of Council members and the Administration to discuss the issue.  All meetings are open to the public; however, these 2 meetings will not be “public input forums”.

Residents who wish to speak on the issue may request Privilege of the Floor for Council meetings on August 6th, August 13th and August 20th .  Privilege of the floor allows 3 minutes for each speaker.  The August 13th meeting will have a very light agenda generally consisting of “Privilege of the Floor” and “Ordinances”.  Additionally, this meeting will begin at 6:30 PM; meetings on August 6th & 20th will begin at 7:00 PM and will have full agendas.  This schedule will provide ample opportunity for discussion as Lima City Council considers the communication received Monday evening. If the ordinance is passed by the August 20th meeting it will provide for the issue to be placed on the November 6th ballot giving residents of Lima the opportunity to vote on it.

All meetings will be held in the Lima City Council Chambers, 50 Town Square, Lima, Ohio.  Citizens interested in addressing this issue during the Privilege of the Floor portion of the Council meetings need to request Privilege of the Floor by noon Thursday prior to the meeting by  calling the Lima City Council Clerk, Sally Clemans at 419-221-5218.
